Any agent that is exposed to suffering economic losses derived from the meteorological variables is exposed to weather risk. Various studies reflect that:

  • More than 75% of the world economy is affected (directly or indirectly) by the weather.
  • In Europe, 2 out of 3 companies are directly exposed to climate risk.
  • Every year, about 25% of the GDP in industrialized countries may be penalized by weather conditions.

Weather risk affects the most principal variables in a company:

  • Sales volume (volumetric risk)
  • Production/Distribution capacity
